Last week, I celebrated my 35th birthday. It was a wonderful week spent with family and friends. However, my in-laws don't live near us, so they were unable to celebrate with me. They sent money instead, and I did what any good food/healthy living/fitness blogger would do. I bought new stuff, which I ordered online. All of my new stuff came today. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing as exciting as coming home from work to find packages on the front porch.
Here's what I got:
I am so excited to look through Mama Pea's book. I love her blog, and I know her book will be full of the same fabulous meatless recipes she posts each day. I can't wait to start cooking. The Broner V-slicer is my third mandoline. I'm hoping I actually have success with this one. I really want a good mandoline to julienne vegetables into my salad. I have tried two others so far, and have not been satisfied. The first was a Cuisinart mandoline, which didn't slice well. The second was a Pampered Chef mandoline, which did not have a julienne blade. So, I'm hoping the third time is the charm. I'll let you know how this one works out.
It looks like I have a busy weekend ahead of me. I have new recipes to try and vegetables to slice. I'll see you on Monday with reviews of both.
Have a great weekend!

Hi Willow! I found your blog from your comment on my new endevour, Sparrow Magazine. Thanks so much for you comment there. I hope you enjoy what we've put together.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying getting to know your blog. I just had to share that I have the slicer that you got for you birthday (happy belated too!) and I love it. It is so sharp I have to be careful because I have a bad habit of clumsy cutting skills (ie. slicing my own fingers).
Also, I can say that I would describe my diet exactly like you described yours, low meat, love veg. and vegan cooking, but do eat meat. Sometimes I feel like a misfit. It's nice to see someone else in the same camp as me.
Thanks again for checking out Sparrow!

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. It's still so new, and I have so few readers that I'm always excited when someone leaves a comment. I'm working on the design and layout, and I'm hoping to have a more reader-friendly blog in the future. At this point, I'm just figuring out my style.
I have been using the slicer a lot since I got it, and I'm always afraid I'll cut myself. I have a long history of kitchen accidents.
I know what you mean about feeling like a misfit because of your diet. We don't fit into one specific category, so it's hard to find a group to align ourselves with. But, I really just like food, and I want to enjoy it. Placing too many rules on eating takes away the element of pleasure for me. I'm a firm believer in the 80/20 rule because it allows me to just eat and be healthy without focusing too much on individual meals.
By the way, I LOVE the new magazine. You really went above and betone with the first issue. Thanks for putting it out there.
